NHU Awarded First Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award by CPCIF

On December 24, the Science and Technology Awards Conference of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF) was held in Beijing, where a number of leading enterprises and individuals were recognized for outstanding achievements in scientific and technological innovation. NHU’s project, “Development and Industrialization of Integrated Manufacturing Technologies for High-Quality Solid Methionine” was awarded the First Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award in recognition of its significant technological breakthroughs and industrial value. This honor once again underscores NHU’s strong innovation capabilities and achievements in industrialization, as recognized by a national-level industry authority. Mr. Chen Zhirong, Honorary Chief Engineer of NHU, accepted the award on behalf of the company. Methionine is an essential feed additive for poultry and livestock, with sustained and growing market demand. Prior to the implementation of this project, China’s methionine market was largely dominated by foreign companies, with sharp price fluctuations that severely constrained the stable and healthy development of the domestic downstream livestock industry.To address this industry bottleneck, NHU adhered to a “demand-oriented, internally integrated and externally collaborative” R&D philosophy. In collaboration with leading universities such as Zhejiang University and Tianjin University, we carried out joint research with a focus on greener processes, continuous production, automated control, and premium product quality. The project successfully achieved breakthroughs in multiple “bottleneck” technologies, including the innovative realization of clean synthesis of hydantoin and solid potassium methioninate via pre-circulation of decarbonized mother liquor; the resolution of challenges in crystallization during the acidification reaction and recrystallization polymorph control; and the efficient catalytic synthesis of key intermediates. As a result, NHU established a complete set of proprietary manufacturing technologies for high-quality solid methionine with independent intellectual property rights.Enabled by these technologies, NHU’s methionine products have achieved industry-leading performance across key indicators such as product quality, raw material consumption, energy efficiency, and emissions of waste gas, wastewater, and solid waste. NHU has thus joined the ranks of globally recognized producers of high-quality solid methionine. The successful industrialization of the project not only strengthens the security of domestic supply of high-quality solid methionine, but also provides fundamental support for the high-quality development of China’s downstream livestock industry.For many years, NHU has remained committed to innovation in functional chemicals, leveraging its core “chemical +” and “bio +” technology platforms with long-term dedication and perseverance. On December 12, the forum “Resilience, Symbiosis, Leadership – Release of the Top 100 Chinese Multinational Private Enterprises and the Zhejiang Business Think Tank Dialogue on the 15th Five-Year Plan” was successfully held in Hangzhou. NHU Achieved Top Information Disclosure Rating for 17th Consecutive Year

The Shenzhen Stock Exchange recently released the results of its 2024–2025 information disclosure assessment for listed companies. Thanks to our well-regulated operations and high-quality disclosure practices, NHU once again received the top “A” rating. Only six listed companies nationwide have maintained this rating for 17 consecutive years—representing just 0.12% of all listed firms—and NHU is one of them. This distinction reflects the strong recognition from regulators, the market, and investors of our disclosure quality, governance standards, and long-term investment value.Open and transparent information disclosure is essential to the effective functioning of governance mechanisms within listed companies and serves as a cornerstone for the healthy operation of the capital market. NHU Made its Mark at the 2025 IUPAC World Chemistry Congress

From July 12 to 19, the 53rd IUPAC General Assembly & the 50th World Chemistry Congress took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, under the theme “Chemistry for a Sustainable Future”. Mr. Li Haoran, Honorary Dean of the NHU Research Institute, Ms. Yu Lili, Assistant Dean and Deputy Director of the Product R&D Department, and Mr. He Qiyang, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Cooperation Department, joined over 3,000 chemists from around the world to explore the vital role of chemical science in addressing global sustainability challenges. At the opening ceremony, the winners of the 2025 IUPAC–Zhejiang NHU International Award for Advancements in Green Chemistry, jointly established by NHU and IUPAC, were officially announced. Javier Pérez-Ramírez from ETH Zurich received the Experienced Chemist award. The Young Chemist awards were presented to Jianbin Li (Chinese University of Hong Kong), Philip Stanley (Technical University of Munich), and Sahel Fajal (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research). IUPAC President Ehud Keinan and Professor Li Haoran jointly presented the certificates and extended warm congratulations to the awardees.On the afternoon of July 16, Professor Li Haoran delivered a special lecture titled “Green Oxygenation Mediated by Geminal-Diol Type Species” at the academic forum. He presented NHU’s innovative pathway for phenol-to-quinone conversion in the production of vitamin E and vitamin K3, showcasing a clean and efficient synthesis method for trimethylbenzoquinone and hydroquinone. This breakthrough provides a new green solution for sustainable development in the vitamin industry. Professor Pérez-Ramírez also delivered an award lecture and praised NHU’s spirit of innovation.The IUPAC–Zhejiang NHU International Award for Advancements in Green Chemistry is the first academic award co-established by a Chinese enterprise and IUPAC, covering all leading-edge areas of green chemistry. From July 25 to 26, 2025, the Group's Mid-Year Meeting and Strategic Planning Seminar were successfully held in Xianghu, Hangzhou. The 24-hour mental health support hotline was also activated, marking a big advancement in our employee care system. Giving blood, Giving Love

In response to the call for blood donation and to help meet the clinical blood needs of local hospitals, NHU organized a blood drive on December 18th in collaboration with the Xinchang County Health Bureau. 31 employees from the headquarter and Xinchang production base enthusiastically volunteered, donating a total of 8,200 ML of blood. Committed to a long-term vision and the value of social contribution, NHU has consistently held blood drives for over 20 years, offering the gift of life to patients in need. This effort exemplifies the spirit of NHU's employees, who are dedicated to supporting the community and taking responsibility for making a positive impact.At 8:30 a.m., as the blood mobile arrived at NHU’s headquarter, many employees were already waiting in anticipation. Guided by staff and professional physicians, our employees registered via QR code and were briefed on the blood donation precautions. After completing a series of orderly preparations, including blood pressure checks, blood collection, and testing, 23 employees who passed the health screenings proceeded to donate blood. Each drop of blood represents a beacon of hope, bringing light to patients in need and spreading love and warmth.After the blood donation, the staff closely monitored the donors' physical condition and well-being. All participants reported feeling fine, expressing their willingness to continue supporting blood donation efforts whenever possible. Many shared that it was deeply meaningful to think that their actions could help save a life. NHU also prepared thoughtful souvenirs for the donors, ensuring that everyone felt the care and warmth of the company.Among the participants were both first-time donors and familiar faces who have donated multiple times. Zhang Lifang, an employee at the Animal Nutrition Research Institute of the Xinchang Base, stands out for her extraordinary commitment to blood donation. For the past 15 years, she has consistently donated, contributing a total of 7,000 ML of blood—far exceeding the total blood volume of an adult."I remember my first blood donation in 2009 when I was still working at the company's old factory. I saw the blood drive, and feeling healthy, I decided to give it a try without overthinking it", said Ms. Zhang. Following that positive experience, she was motivated to continue donating and became a dedicated blood donor. Over the past 15 years, she has participated in 18 blood donation events and received multiple honors, including the Zhejiang Provincial Blood Donation Award and the National Bronze Blood Donation Medal. Furthermore, she registered as a volunteer hematopoietic stem cell donor, further demonstrating her commitment to helping others.However, good deeds are done without expecting anything in return. At NHU, there are many individuals like Ms. Zhang Lifang, who quietly and selflessly contribute through their "good deeds". In December, NHU has achieved another important milestone in innovation and intellectual property management by successfully obtaining the ISO 56005 Level 4 certification. This accomplishment makes NHU the third company in Zhejiang Province and the first in Shaoxing City to reach this certification level. It not only affirms NHU's continuous dedication but also marks a significant advancement in the company's innovation and intellectual property management. ISO 56005 is the first international intellectual property management standard developed and promoted by China. The highest evaluation level a domestic enterprise can achieve under this standard is Level 4. The main objective of ISO 56005 is to integrate intellectual property management into innovation activities, encouraging a closer alignment between innovation management and intellectual property management, ultimately enhancing both the effectiveness of innovation management and the capacity for intellectual property creation within enterprises. NHU Successfully Conducted the 2023 Annual General Meeting and Investors Exchange Session

On the afternoon of May 15th, NHU held its 2023 Annual General Meeting, attended by 26 on-site shareholders and representatives, and 85 online voting shareholders. A refreshing companion in our livesMenthol, also known as peppermint camphor, is currently one of the most applied monomeric aroma chemicals in the world. With a pleasant minty aroma and the cooling effect on the skin, it is widely used in personal and home care products, food and beverage, and medicine, among others. In daily life, menthol can be used as an odorant for toothpaste, perfume, beverage, candy, etc., adding flavor to our life. In medicine, menthol can be used as an embrocation to relief local itching and pain and give off a cooling and anesthetic effect locally. When ingested, it can effectively clear away heat and quench thirst, and helps relieve cough and phlegm. Applied when staying up late or having a headache, it can effectively refresh your mind and relieve headache. Over the years, the market demand of menthol’s downstream application has been growing and people’s habit of using menthol products has been forming. At present, about 30,000 – 35,000 tons of menthol are consumed directly per year. On July 11, two innovation projects of NHU carried off the prizes on the 2021 Science and Technology Award Conference of Zhejiang Province. β-Carotene , Promotes Milk Production Effectively

For a long time, milk has always been an important source of high quality protein, calcium. As a result, milk appeared on the table of thousands of families.Since living standards getting higher, there is a higher requirement for quality of milk. A good cup of nutritious and safe milk comes from healthy dairy cows, and healthy dairy cows are dependent on balanced nutrition. The findings of scientists’ extensive researches show that β-carotene has a positive effect on the fertility and health of cows. Carotene, which got its name from the rich red-orange pigment in carrots, has three isomers – α, β, and γ, among which β carotene is the most abundant and important in plants and is the most widespread and stable natural pigment in nature.β-carotene enhances cow fertilityThe fertility of dairy cows is closely related to their milk production and can be enhanced by β-carotene, which is found in vegetables, green forage, and some other plants. Cows cannot synthesize β-carotene and have to get it externally through the diet. A number of studies have found that in intensive large-scale farms where little fresh pasture can be accessed, adding the right amount of β-carotene to the daily diet of cows can significantly boost their fertility, which can be shown in the following ways:Supplementing β-carotene to the cows’ feed can increase the concentration of β-carotene in cows’ blood, improve oocyte quality, animate early luteal activity, increase ovation rates, and raise progesterone levels, thus improving pregnancy rates and embryo quality and reducing pregnancy loss and carving intervals in cows.Higher reproductive performance in dairy cows means shorter calving intervals, better herd structure, and higher milk yield, which is essential for the farms to lower cost and achieve sustainable development.β-carotene improves cow healthWith the advances of farming technologies, the average milk yield of Chinese cows has increased from 4.8 tons/year in 2008 to 8.3 tons/year in 2020, reaching the level of developed European countries. The dramatic boost in milk production over the past 15 years has placed a heavy burden on the cows’ physical conditions, causing continued oxidative stress and rising incidence of mastitis and hysteritis.As the most abundant antioxidant in nature, β-carotene can be added to cows’ daily diet to help them resist oxidation, boost immunity, and lower the incidence of mastitis and hysteritis. Adding the right amount of β-carotene to the feed of cows in late pregnancy can increase the concentration of β-carotene in their colostrum, and an early supplement of β-carotene can help reduce the incidence of diarrhea and pneumonia in calves and improve their survival rate.The healthy growth and production of dairy cows is key to the sustainable development of the industry. With its probiotic carotene products, NHU is helping to improve the reproductive performance of cows and the operation of high-quality farms. Just before the China Brand Day, the 2021 China Brand Value Evaluation Information Release and China Branding Summit was held at Shanghai International Convention Center on May 9th. At the release for the brand value of  Chinese companies, NHU ranked second on the list of “Best Brands in Independent Innovation” with a brand strength score of 749 and brand value of RMB11.247 billion.Brand value speaks for the future competitiveness and profitability of a company and constitutes an important part of the soft power for its development. It causes cows to eat less and consequently produce less milk. Ill cows are culled too early in life, and farm incomes suffer too.  Today, feeding biotin has been shown to reduce the incidence of many hoof diseases, including white line disease, sole ulcers, and sand crack. NHU uses biotin as a stand-alone additive or as part of a feeding strategy combined with vitamin E and ?-carotene. This results in stronger hoof horn and greater hoof hardness, which directly reduces lameness and the loss that lameness brings with it.Preventing and Controlling Mastitis Starts with Boosting ImmunityEvery year, udder infections cause massive losses to the dairy industry due to reduced milk production, lower milk revenue, additional treatment costs, and increased early culls.NHU adds vitamin E additive to feed to help build a robust immune system that can reduce a cow’s vulnerability to infections. Boost Grain Output

The rapid growth of global population keeps pushing up the demand for cash crop. Our series of isoprenol products can be used as raw materials for pesticide intermediates. With the application of new materials in these areas, we can efficiently convert solar energy to  photovoltaic power and bring more green energy to a huge number of families.

We develop lighter and safer automotive materials with better performance to effectively assist the light-weighting and emission reduction of cars, contributing to the “carbon peak” and “carbon neutralization” action.Smog in the air can cause damage to human respiratory system and cardiovascular system. Industrial waste gas contains a high level of PM2.5, which is the biggest source of smog. Therefore, the quality of industrial dust bag for environmental protection directly affects the result of air treatment. We have developed 1.11 and 0.89 dtex polyphenylene sulfide ultra-fine fibers, which increases the filtration efficiency of the dust bag to over 99.995%. It further reduces the outlet concentration of industrial flue gas, contributing to clearer sky and fresher air. 

Reduce Carbon Emission

NHU is committed to continuously improving product energy efficiency and reducing carbon footprint throughout the product lifecycle. We start from the very beginning, the innovation and R&D of energy-saving technologies. Studies show that low-protein diets can significantly reduce fecal nitrogen excretion. Every 1% reduction in the intake of crude protein can reduce the excretion of ammonia by 10%, dietary crude protein by 2%, and nitrogen by 16%. Adding our methionine products to animal feed can balance daily ration of amino acids and reduce crude protein level. It helps to significantly reduce nitrogen excretion, cut greenhouse gas emission, and effectively improve the breeding environment without compromising animal production performance.

Efficient Resource Utilization

NHU takes the efficient use and recycling of energy and resources as the core and strives to continuously increase the application of renewable resources to achieve green and high-quality development through technological innovation. Our biological fermentation segment uses renewable corn as raw material and microbial fermentation as the method to prepare target molecules. We produce the product through cell metabolism, which promotes the transformation from fossil energy to renewable energy. NHU insists on reusing, reducing, and decontaminating the three industrial wastes. Through joint R&D and the introduction of world leading recovery technologies and devices, we have effectively increased the utilization of resources. The COD emission and the energy consumption per RMB10,000 production value is reduced by more than 5% and 7% every year respectively.

PPS + 3D Printing

Carbon neutrality, plastic reduction, green ...... These concepts have become a consensus in society. Manufacturing companies are in action, exploring the possibilities on the path of sustainable development. 3D printing, which has played an active role in lowering energy consumption and reducing carbon emission has risen to prominence. What is 3D Printing? 3D printing, also referred to as additive manufacturing, is an advanced manufacturing technology originated in the 1980s that integrates computers, machinery, CNC and materials. Compared to traditional subtractive manufacturing (e.g. cutting) and equivalent manufacturing (e.g. forging), this mode of production barely has any material waste, resulting in both cost savings and environmental benefits. It can even localize the production and reduce transportation. After paying for the ‘drawings’, customers are able to print the required products locally, thus reducing the need of line-haul and the greenhouse gas emission that comes with it.  Limitations of Traditional Printing MaterialsAt present, 3D printing mainly uses resin and plastics as the materials. The most rapidly developing plastic material, polypropylene (PP), has great potential for application in the field of 3D printing due to its low density, high strength, good heat resistance and insulation, chemical stability and low price. However, the process of melt crystallization causes great shrinkage in PP, which makes it prone to warping and deformation during 3D printing. The final product may therefore be less accurate than desired. In addition, the printed product is of low toughness and high loss, often ending up of having no actual use.  New Materials Driving the Development of 3D Printing Technology NHU’s new material research team has dived headfirst into the emerging field of 3D printing since 2019 and has successfully developed polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), boosting the development of 3D printing technologies.   PPS is a thermoplastic material with excellent performance in heat resistance, chemical resistance, flame retardancy and electrical properties. It has a heat deflection temperature of 260°C and a long-term service temperature of over 200°C. In addition, its chemical resistance is second only to fluorine resins, and it has a V-0 flame rating. When ground into powder, it has high fluidity; when spread out，the powder bed is leveled and smooth, resulting in high accuracy for 3D printing.  According to the R & D staff, the particle size of the material has been one of the key factors affecting the structure and performance of 3D printed parts. PPS micro powder effectively addresses the limitations of the particle size of the material, promoting its application in 3D printing. With excellent thermal stability, PPS micro powder can be recycled multiple times, greatly reducing the cost of printing. This backs up the argument of the pollution-free benefit of 3D printing.  The new PPS material developed by NHU has been widely used for areas of low-carbon emission and environmental protection. For example, PPS filter-bag made of PPS resin has been installed in dust collectors in domestic coal-fired power plants, reducing the smoke emissions of the plants; NEV parts made of PPS materials reduce the weight of the vehicle and its battery and increase the mileage and energy utilization, contributing to sustain

NHU Won the First Prize of Zhejiang Provincial Award for Technological Invention

Recently, the 2020 Science and Technology Award Conference of Zhejiang Province was held at the Great Hall of the People of Zhejiang Province. The project of "Key Technological Innovation and Industrialization of the Micro-Nano Structure Control of Supported Catalyst" jointly developed by NHU and Zhejiang University won the First Prize of Zhejiang Provincial Award for Technological Invention. This is a renewal of the honor we received in 2017. The project was jointly developed by NHU and Zhejiang University after over ten years of unremitting exploration. Led by Mr. Wang Yong, Deputy Chief Engineer of NHU, the project team successfully broke through the technical bottleneck and developed a series of high-performance hydrogenation catalysts with independent intellectual property rights, addressing the challenge of specific micro-nano structures of catalysts needed for multiple types of hydrogenation reactions. The promotion and application of the project will help cultivate an industrial cluster of vitamins and aroma chemicals with a complete industrial chain featuring leading technologies. This will significantly contribute to the transformation and upgrading of the national fine chemical industry and its scientific and technological progress.Honored by this award, NHU will continue to stay on the main course with an open mind in cooperation with partners and coordination with internal force on the basis of prospective studies, industrialization studies, and studies on the applied technologies in the realm of chemical synthesis and biotechnology.
